Christmas Eve

We enjoyed a wonderful Christmas holiday in the Wilson household! Our family was thankful to have grandma and grandpop in town to celebrate Christmas with us yet again this year. I have a lot of photos from the weekend to share, but I will begin with Christmas Eve because these capture so many of our family's Christmas memories this year.

Grandma has shared her love of sewing and crafts with our children, particularly with Amelia. This year grandma decided she wanted to teach Amelia how to cross-stitch so she gave Amelia this Christmas ornament kit at the start of their visit. Amelia and grandma worked on creating this hand-sewn Christmas ornament each day while grandma was here, and finally on Christmas Eve this adorable elf was ready to hang on the tree. The elf was sewn partly by grandma, but mostly by Amelia.

Amelia was so proud of her accomplishment! Thanks grandma for teaching Amelia how to start and finish a cross-stiching project!

Our family's big Christmas meal was on Christmas Eve this year. Grandma led Amelia and John in creating crafty place cards (the trees below) to make our table quite festive!

So cute! Amelia and John loved creating these and they were fun to have on the table on Christmas Eve and Christmas day.

Christmas Eve meal was delicious. Scott grilled a rib roast (outstanding!!), and grandma and I prepared the side dishes: steamed green beans, corn pudding (Grimes family recipe) , carrot souffle (Johnson/Wilson family recipe), potato stuffing (Grimes recipe), and popovers (Wendy's new tradition). 

We even used my grandmother's china for the holiday meal. Totally worth it (you have to hand-wash all of the dishes) and beautiful to use. We enjoyed homemade apple pie with ice cream for dessert.

Before going to bed Amelia and John left cookies and carrots for Santa and his reindeer. 

After the children were in bed Scott added Santa's favorite late-night beverage to Santa's treats.

And then all of the adults brought down the wrapped gifts for the children and placed them beneath the Christmas tree. Such a fun evening! More to come about the rest of our family's Christmas celebrations.
