Carnival

Amelia's elementary school held their annual carnival today. Under normal circumstances, this event is a wonderful gathering in our neighborhood, where parents and kids alike celebrate good times while supporting and raising funds for the school. Unfortunately, today it was rainy and we had bad weather overall, such that the spirit of the festival was dampened a bit. Nonetheless, the children enjoyed themselves, as you can see below. These photos are of Amelia and John enjoying the Dance Extravaganza game, where they each performed dances on game mats to synchronized music.

Below is a photo of Amelia from this afternoon, taken after the festival. My first thought with this photo is my goodness, how tall my little girl is! Of course, I know that Amelia is getting to be a big girl, my almost six year-old princess who is an amazingly sweet and smart little girl. But when you look at this, and you see her long legs and her thin frame, with the lovely smile, you think, what a big little angel GIRL (that's a tattoo on her cheek, by the way).

Not a preschool-aged kid, but a little girl, fully thinking and smart and reasoning and on her way to becoming a pre-teen (or tween, or whatever name you give to kids of her soon-to-be age). And then below is a photo of Amelia feeding her brother a treat, some type of candy that the children obtained from the carnival. I believe the objective of the game was Amelia as the master, feeding the puppy (who is John). Gotta love the fact that I completely let one of my children feed the other bits of candy, while sitting on the floor in the middle of the afternoon, and all I do is take pictures to document the event.

These last two photos are of the children earlier this evening, playing outside while Scott was reading the grill for our dinner. The bad weather from earlier today had cleared up, and I think Amelia and John were like prisoners freed from confinement - enjoying the opportunity to play outdoors. I don't know why John sticks his tongue out in all of his photos. I suppose like father, like son.
