We spent four lovely days in Mazatlán, Mexico between Christmas and New Year's Day. Due to a 30-hour travel delay in our arrival (as a result of horrible storms that resulted in multiple tornadoes in the Dallas area the night before our planned departure), we were more than grateful to arrive in Mexico finally on Monday afternoon. After checking into our hotel (Pueblo Bonito Mazatlán), we arrived in our room, stepped out onto the balcony, and were greeted with this lovely view of the gardens, pool, and ocean beyond.
Paradise! It took us about five seconds to quickly find warm weather clothing and bathing suits for some orientation time on the beach and by the pool. This is a view of the resort from the beach.
And looking south along the beach. Mazatlán is a smaller town (less than 500,000 residents according to Wikipedia) along the Pacific coast, north of Puerto Vallarta and directly east of the southern tip of the Baja peninsula. The center of old town Mazatlan is about three miles south, but you can't see it because of the curvature of the shoreline.

John enjoyed swimming in the pool while the rest of us a snack of enjoyed guacamole and tortilla chips, washed down with refreshing Pacificos (adults only on the Pacificos)!
The resort was perfect for our trip. It wasn't too fancy or too big, and the Mexican architecture felt comfortable and somewhat authentic. Before going back to the room to change and look for dinner, John and I took a quick walk on the beach just before sunset (around 6:00pm local time).
After a long and frustrating travel journey, this was a refreshing welcome to Mazatlán.
