Amelia day was both educational and very fun for me. My suspicions were confirmed that day that Amelia does not like shopping (she protested, "mom, can't we go home and watch cartoons, I don't want to pick out a new school outfit!", which continues to this day...pretty much like mother like daughter in terms of aversion to shopping), but she did relent to my peer pressure and happily selected a new book at the bookstore. After the bookstore, we went to Glorias for lunch (Tex-Mex, Amelia's favorite!), and then we spent the afternoon watching Wall-E in the movie theater. I had a great time on Amelia day and I think she did too!
Fast forward to this year, when the time is coming near for John to begin kindergarten. Things have changed though in that the entire family can enjoy John day (we don't have to send Amelia to preschool to let John enjoy his favorite activities! He would probably be lost without her there to enjoy it with.), so we had John day this past Sunday. Scott joined us and so for the first time in a long time we were all together for a majority of the day. It was nice.
First up - Barnes and Noble! Amelia happily spent her gift card from her birthday (thank you grandmom and grandpop! Amelia purchased four chapter books, one of which was devoured by the time we arrived home that evening at 6 p.m.!), and John selected two books. One was all about motorcyles and one was all about space. Excellent choices, in my opinion.
Next of John's choices was lunch at Gattitown. This was my first visit to Gattitown, though Scott had been there before with the kids. Gattitown is like a much MUCH nicer version of Chuck E Cheese. The elements of kid-friendly food and midway-style games are the same, though the atmosphere at Gattitown was significantly better, in my opinion.
After a surprisingly good lunch of better-than-decent pizza and a fresh veggie salad bar, it was time to hit the midway.
I really enjoyed watching Amelia and John smash into each other on the bumper cars! John is on the left below and Amelia is on the right.

Afterwards Scott and John played video game car racing...
...and both kids worked hard to earn valuable (?!?) tickets for interesting prizes. John earned enough for a plastic sword Ninja set, and Amelia selected a bunch of trinkets - fake teeth, candy, and an art kit.
The kids were on cloud nine, but we weren't done yet! Next stop on John's agenda...the movies! Scott was smart enough to find a theater that would have an alternative option for Amelia and me. While the boys saw Captain America...
...Amelia and I saw the Smurfs! Not my first choice by any means (the first time I saw the trailer I declared that there was no way our family would see this in the theater!), but compared to Captain America, it didn't look too bad.
And it wasn't, in fact it was surprisingly decent. I even laughed out loud a half dozen times. Imagine that!
After the movies it was getting close to dinner time, so we headed home. This completely thrilled the kids because they got to take out the Ninja swords and pose for photos.

To top off a very fun day, what could be better than vanilla Blue Bell with oreo cookie crumbles, marshmallows, and sprinkles? We all had a good time on John day, and I think I recall hearing John declare this "the best day ever". I'll take whatever I can get, as we all had a good time!

Cool tradition. Gattitown might be a good activity if the weather is bad in December?
