Today I am sharing some writing samples recently created by Amelia and John.
First up - John! It's rare that I get to see John's writing, but I love this project that was sent home last week in his weekly assignment folder.
The text of John's writing assignment is as follows:
"I had a wonderful Spring Break. I went to Disney World with my family and it was the best two days of my life. I stayed in Animal Kingdom Lodge. I went to two of the parks. I went on Big Thunder Mountain. I went on Big Thunder Mountain 3 times. It was my favorite ride. I also went to Tomorrow Land. I went on the Peoplemover. I also went on Astro Orbiter. I was going to go on Rock and Roll Roller Coaster. But I was too scared. I loved the trip so much. My spring break was awesome."
Now for Amelia's writing project. Amelia has taken to writing on a website called "Miss Literati" in her spare time. Occasionally Amelia's class gets free time on their netbooks during school hours and a friend of Amelia's introduced her to this website. From what I can tell, kids publish stories on the site and can view other friends' writing samples and comment on them (much like blogging and commenting on a website). Amelia has several different projects started on this site, some involving poetry and others are a compilation of short stories.
This is a chapter one from an entry that Amelia started today. It comes from a book called "Paige Turner", which is a deliberate play on the phrase. I learned that this was Amelia's intention because when I mentioned to her that perhaps she might have spelled the name wrong (I was thinking "page turner"), she looked at me with glossy eyes like, "Duh, mom. I meant to do that." Then she said, "mom, you have to read it. The main character;s name is "Paige Turner".
Of course, sweet daughter. Now I get it!
I cannot figure out how to cut and paste the text of Amelia's story from the website onto this page, and I am not sure how well you can read the text above. Therefore, if you are interested in reading Amelia's stories you can find her written publications at: Miss Literati.
