Talents

This afternoon I took the children to the park while Scott was watching football playoffs. I wanted to play with the rocket launcher with the kids (without threat of the rockets getting stuck on the roof) and Amelia wanted to get practice on her roller skates.

And Amelia posing with her skates while resting on a bench

Last but not least, the following conversation took place between Amelia and I as we were leaving the park:

Mom: Wow - you guys sure are good! Amelia, you are really getting good at roller skating (she is!). And look at your brother, he is running so fast (he was racing ahead of us on the sidewalk towards the car).

Amelia: Yeah, mom. We are good. And you are the loser (stated that way, I suppose, because I was walking more slowly behind them as Amelia was skating and John was running. Plus, I had lost our rocket-catching game earlier in the afternoon).

Mom (laughing): Amelia, that's not so nice to call mom a loser.

Amelia: Mom, it's just that we have talents. I am good at roller skating and John is good at running.

Mom: Oh, yes, you're right. Can you think of a talent that mom has?

Amelia: No, not really...(then reconsidering)...well, maybe taking care of us. You do a good job of that (yes, warmed my heart a bit, but I was still reeling from the no-talents comment).

Mom: Well, that's a nice thing to say. Anything else?

Amelia: No, that's it.

Mom: What about dad? What are his talents?

Amelia: Definitely shooting marshmallows! He is good at that. And that is a GOOD (yes, her emphasis added here) talent to have! (she is referring to the marshmallow shooter that the kids gave Scott for Christmas and that he loves to play with)

End of the conversation. I found it all quite humerous and thought it should be shared.

This last photo below is from this afternoon. I went for a quick run before we went to the park and John joined me on the porch outside while I was drinking water and cooling off afterwards. John wanted to listen to the music on my ipod, and I let him. I love the "John look" on his face here.

  1. Oh, my gosh, Wend, this is hysterical!! I can totally imagine how that conversation went! Don't worry; little does Amelia know that you're superwoman!! Someday, she will.
