Our family celebrated the Christmas holiday in a different way this year. We made travel plans for the week of Christmas, so we moved the Wilson family Christmas celebration to December 18. And since our Christmas tree lights died last year and we are currently living in a rental house and are trying to limit the things we buy new and move, we decided to wait until next holiday season to replace our full-sized Christmas tree. So we used the small craft Christmas tree on the India coffee table as our holiday "centerpiece". I decorated the mantle per tradition and this scene ended up working for our family's Christmas!
Christmas celebration on December 18! Kids didn't care about the date change one bit.
I have to admit, at that time it felt a little weird to celebrate Christmas a full week before the rest of the world. But during our family's Christmas day it felt completely normal, as if the day were December 25. We had a lovely day at home with champagne brunch, lots of game playing time, Scott's amazing prime rib roast for dinner and much relaxation.
Then two days later we were off for a week's vacation to Mexico. We loved our trip to Mazatlan so much last year that we opted to go back for Christmas week this year. John is hanging off the bridge above the pool in the day we arrived in the photo below.
Sunset the first night we were in Mexico. So beautiful!
The next morning Scott and I went for a long walk on the beach. We walked for about 30 minutes along the beach to the south of our hotel, and then we traveled the reverse distance on the main road back. Walking on the beach is really hard! This was the perfect start to our stay in Mexico.
