Amelia and John had a day off from school for Columbus Day Texas State Fair Day last week, so we took advantage of the long weekend to go to Gainesville to visit my parents and my sister's family. Over the years, we have developed a fun and relaxing routine that involves swimming, visits to the playground, and attending a UF volleyball game.
We arrived Saturday afternoon and spent time with Laura's family at their community pool. Since the pools have been closed in Texas for months, swimming with Jack and Henry is an extra-fun treat for mid-October.
Jumping was a major theme of the kids' play this year. John is making the TCU frog symbol in the photo below. TCU was playing Baylor in a football game while we were swimming, so this was likely on John's mind at the time.
Sunday morning we enjoyed a visit to a local park before it got too hot. The kids enjoyed the playground equipment, but playing with the frisbee and kickball proved to be the most popular. Amelia enjoyed taking pictures with my camera all morning, so that is why she is not in any of the photos.
Later on Sunday afternoon grandma treated all of the kids to a trip to the racetrack. They LOVED this! Laura drove with Henry, I drove with Jack, and Amelia and John drove their own cars.
Sunday afternoon we all attended a volleyball game, UF against Texas A&M. UF played great and won the match in three games. And the kids got to take a photo with Albert and Alberta! Win, win!
We had a great time visiting with family during our quick trip to Gainesville. This may have been one of our last October trips to Gainesville for awhile since Laura's family is moving west to Oklahoma within the next year. I am sure we will have fun creating many more cousin memories in Oklahoma and Texas in the years to come!
Will you be within driving distance when they are living in OK?
