Life's been busy lately with end of school year activities for Amelia and John. I am grateful that I have been able to enjoy time celebrating school-related activities with them now that my own classes are over this semester. I love the fact that I have flexibility to work from home most days so that I can run up to John's school over my lunch hour.
Last Friday was Field Day at University Park Elementary School. There's lots to love about Field Day at our elementary school! The parents, teachers, and volunteers always make this a special day for our kids. John is with his best buddies in the larger group of boys below on the right in the back row. John's class color was blue this year, and John selected his Baltimore Orioles t-shirt form the Kids Run the Bases event to tie-dye for Field Day.
Sack race! The kids were supposed to hop across the field but a few kids (including John) cheated a bit and tried to run instead.
Tug of war was intense this year, and more so for John who is just about the most competitive kid you can imagine. John volunteered to anchor the team for tug of war. This may not make the most sense since John is lean and not a heavier kid (heavier meaning the child can pull better from the back due to the tension), but John is the most competitive boy in the class so he REALLY wanted to win and therefore pulled with all his might. The woman in the photo below is John's beloved teacher, Mrs. Lauren Chabot, eagerly cheering on her class.
Total grit and determination!
Obligatory class photo after the festivities. John is in the second row third from the right. What an awesome Field Day!
John looks so grown up all of the sudden!
